Historical Context
The European clash and historical connections. The both teams have a historical link, also facing each other in Forest's most recent continental tour in the UEFA Cup of 1995-96, but it is the continental championship 46 years ago that entwines these two together, with Britain's first £1m player the English forward netting the decisive goal of a rather dull championship game to claim legendary status for the the English club.
"The legendary management duo, modestly dressed amid all the festivities and cheers, stood for a moment on a bench calmly observing the revelry," wrote the match reporter. Their achievement was an outstanding achievement that it is difficult to imagine happening again – from the lower league to European stage in a short period."
It's also interesting to consider Malmö, who became the first, and to date the last Nordic team to make the championship match under manager Houghton.
The current fixture is a distant from that summit, closer perhaps to the earlier European encounter between Forest and Malmö in 1995-96. Forest are absolutely buzzing after beating Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield on Saturday, while Malmö have been inactive since last month following the end of the Swedish league season. The general expectation is on the home team tonight.
Numerous other matches on offer in this match tracking. The Scottish side have already been defeated by a European rival this season. Rangers are at the foot of the 36-team Europa League standings at the middle of the league phase with no points whatsoever. They desperately need a victory if they are to have any hope of making a comeback for a knockout position.
We'll keep you up to date with all the late games and provide the latest scores from the concluded fixtures, including Villa vs Young Boys and Feyenoord v Celtic.
