The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at the dockside location, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from corners in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's opener, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine stops to ensure the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Everton remain 14th and are half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils role at each end of pitch

Following a drab weekday performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a mere two shots on target, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball back across the face of goal for an unmarked Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as skipper in the Argentine's absence - added his second in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was just as impressive in defensive duties, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the pair dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have faded somewhat and fans flocked to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Spurs.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a major concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes are.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had scored just one league goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having space and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of opportunity. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly whipped threatening crosses into the Tottenham box.
